Prayer Direction

Ask God to help you see where you are facing barricades and obstacles to healthy relationships. Pray for the courage to love people well, forgive as needed, and invest sacrificially in your relationships.

“Live It!” Challenge

An Honest Look – Think through your relational world and make a list of three or more people in each category:
1. Acquaintances who you like and see occasionally.
2. Friends you hang out with regularly who are an important part of your life.
3. Very close people who your trust, respect, and share your life with on a very deep level. Take time to pray for each group and thank God for these varied and valued relationships.

Small Group Discussion

  2. Read: Genesis 1:26-28. What do you learn about the nature and character of God in this passage?

  3. Read: Matthew 9:9-13 and John 1:43-51. What kind of people did Jesus call to be with him, learn from him, and follow him? Why did Jesus invest so heavily in relationships?

  4. Read: Matthew 22:37-39. Why is a close relationship to God the key to healthy and whole relationships with others?

  5. Why do you think Jesus wants you and me to be in close, healthy, loving relationships with other Christians?

  6. Why do you think Jesus calls you and me to be in close, caring, and loving relationships with people who are not yet believers in Him?

  7. What are some of the greatest challenges you face in your relationships and what have you learned about overcoming these hurdles?

  8. What does it look like to invest both time and energy in building Jesus-honoring relationships? What happens to these same relationships if we don’t pour time, energy, and care into them?

  9. Tell about some of the joys you experience because of the relationships you have built and nurtured over the years?

  10. How can your group members encourage you and pray for you as you seek to build Jesus-honoring relationships in our polarized and confused world?
