Memorize and Reflect

And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel. (1 Corinthians 10:10)

Prayer Direction

Take time to thank God for at least ten great ways He has blessed you. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you when and where you tend to grumble and complain… then, ask for power to repent and refuse to sin by being a complainer.

“Live It!” Challenge

Tell Someone!: Make a point, five times this week, to tell someone one thing you are thankful for about them. You will be amazed by the power of thankfulness.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about one or two things you are thankful right now.

  2. Why do you think some people have a hard time focusing on things they can be thankful for?

  3. How can being thankful impact your life? How can it impact the lives of the people around you?

  4. Read: 1 Corinthians 10:1-5. Although the people of Israel were in a desert, they had much to be thankful for. What are some of the reminders of God’s goodness that we read about in this passage? Why is it important to remember to be thankful in the middle of hard times?

  5. Read: 1 Corinthians 10:6-10. What were the four big sins of the people of Israel while they were wandering in the desert (as mentioned in this passage by the apostle Paul)? How are each of these sins a sign that someone is not truly thankful to God?

  6. What are ways we can be tempted to live in idolatry and how can thankfulness help us battle against this?

  7. What are some of the sexual temptations people are facing today? How can thankfulness help us battle against these temptations?

  8. How can deep trust in God help us refrain from testing Him? What can we do to deepen our trust in God?

  9. How is grumbling and complaining a sign that we are not living with a thankful heart? How can growing our thankfulness act as an antidote to a complaining spirit?
