Small Group Discussion
What are signs that greed is creeping into our heart and life?
What are some of the things in our culture that make greed seem easy and even attractive?
Read: Exodus 20:17. Why do you think God warns us not to covet (deeply desire in our heart) the things that belong to others? What are some of the consequences we could face if we spend a lot of time coveting what others have?
Read: Hebrews 13:5-6. What do we learn about the character of God in this passage and how can this help adjust our perspective on material things?
What are ways we can try to “keep our lives free from the love of money”? Why is this so challenging in our world?
Read: Proverbs 11:24 and Ecclesiastes 5:10. What are some of the “cause and effect” lessons we find in this passage? How have you seen the truth of these passages in real life?
What are three things you are grateful for that money can’t buy? What is one thing you are thankful for that money did help to buy? Which of these are most valuable?
What are some of the things God has promised that He has waiting in heaven for us? How can our focus on these things help give us perspective on God’s goodness?
What is one way you could help a person who is hurting and struggling (not because of poor choices but just because life can be hard)? How could being generous toward a person like this loosen the grip of greed?
