Memorize and Reflect

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. ([bible]Hebrews 10:24-25[/bible])

Prayer Direction

Thank God for the people in your life who have reached out and invited you into true Christian community. Pray for Shoreline Church to be a place of loving community and God-honoring harmony. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the value and importance of meeting with God’s people regularly and to fully engage in Christian community.

“Live It!” Challenge

Try a Group If you are not part of one, try being part of a Growth Group or Community Group for three months. Give your full commitment and make it a priority to be with your group each time they meet. To learn more about these groups, visit the Connection Center on Sunday or call the church and ask for Patty Whitmore.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a time you felt connected in the church and truly part of the community of faith. Why is it so important for Christians to recognize we are part of a family of faith and to seek community within the church?

  2. If we do not engage in the church and seek Christian community, what are some of the things we will miss and not experience?

  3. Read: Genesis 1:26-27 What does this passage teach us about the nature of God and what does it teach about how God created people from the very beginning? Why do you think community is so important to God and why should it be important to us?

  4. Read: Hebrews 10:22-25 What are ways we can “spur one another on toward love and good deeds”? How have other Christians taken this role in your life and challenged you to live more for Jesus?

  5. What are some of the reasons Christians stop meeting together and move away from consistent community? What can we do to remove some of these reasons and make deeper commitments to be in community with each other?

  6. How can being part of a Growth Group, Community Group, or Ministry Team in the church help connect us together and deepen our faith?

  7. Read: Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 What does this passage teach about the importance of being in relationship with others and the strength of community?

  8. Tell a story about how Christian community has been a source of strength and hope in your life.

  9. What is one step you can take in the coming weeks to go deeper in community with other believers and how can your growth group members encourage you and keep you accountable to take this step?
