Memorize and Reflect

1 John 1:8-9 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Prayer Direction

Thank God for His unending faithfulness and amazing grace. Reflect on His perfection, holiness, and righteousness. Consider any selfish desires, sinful thoughts, harmful attitudes, hurtful behaviors, and inappropriate acts that are contrary to His commands and His Word. Confess the wrongness of each of these to Him and ask for His forgiveness. Thank Him for His Word and faithfulness to hear our cries of repentance and offer forgiveness for our sins through Jesus' saving work on the cross for us. Ask Him to protect you from continuing in any sinful patterns and to reconcile with anyone who your actions, attitudes, behaviors, etc have hurt.

“Live It!” Challenge

Get Real and Get Right with God and others! Find a quiet space and time this week to get alone with God and get real with Him. Ask Him to search your heart, and as He shows you sinful areas and/or patterns, ask for His forgiveness. If these actions affect others in your life, seek to reconcile with them by apologizing, asking for their forgiveness, and asking for them to pray for you as you seek to make changes in God’s power and His grace.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What is a place that you consider as “your perfect paradise” and why? (Hint: Tropical beach, mountain chalet in winter, a beautiful flower garden

  2. Read: Genesis 2:8-9; Genesis 2:15-17. What do these verses tell us about God’s love for Adam and for His creation?

  3. Read: Genesis 2:18-25. What does God is not good for man? Although animals can bring comfort to us and serve an important role in creation, they are not a substitute for human companionship and interaction. How has our culture today muddled this message and eternal truth?

  4. Read: Genesis 3:3-9. What tactics do we see the serpent (Satan) use to deceive Eve and Adam? How does he continue to use these tactics against us even today? How does Adam and Eve’s failure to embrace God’s good design and plan parallel areas in our own lives? How does the enemy seek to exploit those areas?

  5. Read: Romans 5:12. Because of Adam’s original sin, all of creation has been affected and infected by the curse of sin. How do you see the effects of sin impacting our world today? How about your own life, family, and friendships?

  6. Read: Romans 6:23. Fortunately, God in His amazing grace has provided the cure to the curse of sin and death by sending His Son, Jesus to pay the price for all sin, for all time, for all people. Thank Him in prayer!
