Memorize and Reflect

Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. ([bible]James 4:7[/bible])

Prayer Direction

Pray for the power of God’s Spirit to fill you so you can submit every area of your life to God’s will and ways. Ask for strength to resist areas of temptation you are facing in your life. Spend time confessing and repenting of areas of open and hidden sin in your life.

“Live It!” Challenge

Location, Location, Location – James writes, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you” ([bible]James 4:8[/bible]). Identify one or two ways you can draw near to God on a daily basis. Seek to make time, early in your day, to draw near to God, acknowledge His presence in your life, and surrender your will and day to His will. Also, identify how you can draw near to God when you are facing repeating and common temptations in your life.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What are ways you see the devil at work in our world today?

  2. What are some of the tactics he has been using for a long time that are still very effective? What are some new tools and tactics you see the enemy using against Christians and the church today?

  3. Read: James 4:7-12 What does it look like when we submit to God on a daily basis? How does submitting to God’s will and ways help us win spiritual battles?

  6. When James says, “God will draw near to you” what do you think he means? What are ways you experience the presence of God when He draws near you?

  7. Why is it critical that we confess our sins and even when we feel tempted? How does confession bring us power to overcome temptation?

  8. Why is repentance needed, along with confession? If we confess our sin, but do not repent of it, what message are we sending God and the people around us?

  9. What does your life look like when you are walking in humility before God? How can we grow in humility?

  10. What is an area of sin you are battling with that your group members can pray for and encourage you as you seek to follow Jesus and walk away from temptation?
