Memorize and Reflect

2 Corinthians 11:25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was pelted with stones, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea

Prayer Direction

Pray for people you know who are battling physical struggles, pain, and uncertainty. Pray for Jesus to be powerfully near them in their time of need. Ask God to deepen their faith and keep the enemy from speaking lies into their heart and mind in this time of struggle.

“Live It!” Challenge

Being a Bearer of Grace – If you have someone in your life who is hurting physically and possibly limited in what they can do at this time, offer to help out in some way. Find out what you can do (that they can’t easily do right now) and offer to help. If you don’t know anyone in this kind of situation, call your church and ask if there is someone in the church family who needs some help. As you serve this person, pray for God’s presence to be near them in their time of pain.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a time when you or someone close to you experienced a season of real pain and struggle. How did the pain of life impact faith and a sense of God’s closeness?

  2. Read: 2 Corinthians 11:23-28. What were some of the points in life where the apostle Paul experienced real pain and struggle? How did this impact his faith and ministry?

  3. If you experienced the kind of things that Paul suffered, how might this impact your outlook on life and faith?

  4. How has God shown up in your heart and life in times of real pain?

  5. Read: 2 Corinthians 1:3-4. What do you think it means to say that “God comforts us in all our affliction” What are some of the ways God shows His comfort in deeply painful times?

  6. What are other ways God shows His compassion to his beloved children?

  7. Read: 2 Corinthians 1:4-7. How does experiencing God’s love, grace, and comfort in our hard times equip us for sharing this same compassion to others when they suffer? Why do you think God wants us to pass on His care and love to others in their times of suffering?

  8. Tell about a time you were able to take the lessons you learned through a time of suffering (and the heavenly comfort you received) and leverage it to care for, love, and help someone else through a hard time.

  9. Who is a person in your life that is hurting right now and what can you (or your group) do to support and care for them? What are ways you can show and minister the comfort of Jesus to others?
