We ought therefore to show hospitality to such people so that we may work together for the truth. (3 John 1:8)Prayer Direction
Thank God for two or three people in your life who are examples of faithful service and compassionate love. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you courage to confront Christians you love with honest rebuke if they are out of God’s will…but to do it with gentleness.“Live It!” Challenge
Spread Some Good Gossip: Think about a Christian you know who really loves Jesus, serves faithfully, and shows humility. Make a point of mentioning this person’s faithful service to random people three or four times this week. See if you can get some good gossip spreading!Small Group Discussion
Tell about someone you know who shows consistent Christian hospitality. How do you see Jesus in this person?
Read: 3 John 2. Why is it important for us to pray for those who are serving Jesus faithfully? How can our prayers protect and help them remain faithful?
Take time to open the Shoreline website and pray for a few of our staff members or Leadership Team members (there are pictures and bios). You can also pray for faithful volunteers you know in the church.
Read: John 10. Why is it so hard to call out, rebuke, and confront a person who is living in sin? What keeps us from doing this?
Give an example of a time someone confronted you, or you confronted someone because of a sin (don’t use names). What was the end result of this willingness to rebuke and call out sin?
Read: John 12. What are specific ways we can celebrate and bless people who serve Jesus and His Church faithfully? Try to make a list of ten or more ideas.
What is one way your group can bless a faithful servant in your church in the next week? Make a plan and do it together!
Read: 3 John 7. What are some ways we can show hospitality in our world today?
What specific act of hospitality might God want you to extend and how can your group members cheer you on as you seek to extend this service and ministry?
