Memorize and Reflect

2 Timothy 2:20-21
“Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.”

Prayer Direction

Pray for an increased desire to serve God as energetically and thoroughly as possible. Thank Him for the body He has given you, and ask Him to give you a new passion to use that body as an instrument for His service. Know that your body is good and pleasing to Him when you offer it to His work.

“Live It!” Challenge

Write a short history of your view of your body. After praying through Romans 12:1, picture yourself offering up your body to God and His service, asking Him to help you see your body as holy and pleasing to Him.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What kind of relationship have you had with your body throughout your life? Prideful? Ashamed? Frustrated? How has that changed? What has been the most significant factor determining how you feel about your body?

  2. Do you look at your body primarily as an ornament or instrument? How does this impact the way you treat it?

  3. In what ways has your body enabled you to do the work God has called you to do? Has your body’s condition ever hindered your work for the Lord? How so?

  4. Read: Romans 12:1 Together as a group. What makes your body pleasing to God? How can we do that?

  5. Have you ever fallen into the trap of using sin to fight sin? In what way? What’s a better approach?

  6. Do you struggle with the idea that our bodies are not our own, to do with as we please? In what ways do you see Christians acting as if there is no accountability for how we treat our bodies?

  7. Playing volleyball launched a season of spiritual rejuvenation for Karen. Has there ever been a time when addressing your bodily health improved other areas of your life? How so? What activities do you think could benefit you this way in the coming weeks?

  8. Bodily health isn’t, by any means, just about eating and exercise. Many other factors (genetics, contracting viruses, accidents) impact our levels of energy, focus, and overall health. Discuss some of these and the attitude Christians should have when confronted with things beyond our control.
