Memorize and Reflect
When he (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. (Matthew 9:36)Prayer Direction
Ask God to help you grow in your compassion for those who don’t yet know the love of Jesus. Invite the Holy Spirit to challenge you to actions that show God’s love for lost people. Pray for your heavenly Father to give you boldness to share words that point people to Jesus.“Live It!” Challenge
Mention a Movie: Take time to watch Lee Strobel’s movie, “The Case for Christ.” Then, be sure to tell a few non-believing friends about the movie and encourage them to watch it.Small Group Discussion
Respond to one of these three: 1) Tell about someone who loved you in a way that showed you the presence of Jesus. 2) Share about someone you respect who really serves others in a way that shows the presence of Jesus. 3) Tell about a time you opened your mouth and shared the story and message of Jesus.
Why is it so important that we care about people (heart) serve people (hands) and speak to people (mouth) about Jesus? If we don’t do all three of these, how can we compromise our witness to them?
Read: Matthew 9:35-38. What do you learn about the heart and emotions of Jesus in this passage? How is Jesus growing your heart to be more like His?
What is one way you can show care and compassion for someone in your life who does not yet know Jesus? How can you point to Jesus and let them know that your care for them comes because of Jesus’ love for you?
Read: John 8:1-11. How did Jesus treat this woman in her time of deep pain, shame, and need? What are ways we can treat people with greater dignity and tenderness in their times of shame and pain?
Who is one non-Christian you know that is in a very hard time of life? What actions can you take to treat them in a way that shows the love and care of Jesus?
Read: John 3:1-8. What words did Jesus speak that helped move Nicodemus move toward faith in the Savior? What can you learn from Jesus’ example of words of truth and clarity?
Who is one person in your life that needs to hear words about the grace of Jesus, the story of Jesus, or the love of Jesus? What can you share with them that would paint a picture of God’s love and truth?
