Prayer Direction

Ask for the Holy Spirit to open your ears, heart, and mind to what He wants you to learn over this seven-week series about exploring God. Pray for God to place someone on your heart to invite to church during the Explore God Series. Ask God to help you recognize and live out the truth that only seeking Him will bring true meaning in this life and for eternity.

1. If you were to ask a random person on the street, “What is the purpose of life?” What are some of the common answers you think people would give?

2. If you were to ask people leaving a Bible-believing church on a Sunday morning, “What is the purpose of life?” What are some of the common answers you think people would give? Do you think the answer to this question changes much between believers and non-Christians?

3. Read: Ecclesiastes 1:1-11. What is the tone and attitude of Solomon at the start of this book of wisdom? How do you feel as you read his words?

4. Read: Ecclesiastes 1:16-18. What are some of the values and benefits of growing knowledge and wisdom? Why is this not enough to bring ultimate meaning in life?

5. Read: Ecclesiastes 2:4-6. What are some of the values and benefits of personal accomplishments and working hard at life? Why is this not enough to bring ultimate meaning in life?

6. Read: Ecclesiastes 2:10-11. What are some of the joys and blessings we experience when we partake of the pleasures God has designed in this world? Why is this not enough to bring ultimate meaning in life?

7. Read: Ecclesiastes 5:10-12. What are some of the ways we experience satisfaction and security when we accumulate and use the material goods of this world? Why is this not enough to bring ultimate meaning in life?
