Memorize and Reflect
Joshua 1:8Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
Prayer Direction
Thank God for speaking with clarity and power through His Word. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you every time you engage in Scripture. Pray for the power to follow what God teaches you through your Bible reading, listening, and through the sermons you hear.“Live It!” Challenge
Early and Late – Try this discipline over the next week. Read your Bible every morning at some point (Within an hour of when you wake up). If you don’t have a regular Bible reading plan now, use the reading guide above and read the regular passage and the bonus chapter (Notice that there is a key passage about the Bible…God’s Word, in every one of the bonus chapters). Then, reread the Bible before you go to bed. Even if you already read it, slowly read and meditate on a portion of Psalm 119.Small Group Discussion
Tell about how you first learned about the Bible and what you were taught. As you look back, what was helpful, and what could have been done better?
Read: 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Why is it essential that we know the Bible is divinely inspired and true from beginning to end? What are the dangers we can face if we don’t trust the teaching of the Scriptures?
How have you experienced God doing one of the following when you have read His divine book: teaching (You learned something new), rebuking (God pointed out something wrong in your life), correcting (God taught you the right way to live), or training in righteousness (God made you more like Jesus)?
Read: Joshua 1:8. What does it mean to “keep the Book of the Law” on your lips? Why is speaking, repeating, and teaching the words of Scripture so important and powerful?
Tell about a person in your life who loves and lives the Bible. How has their life and declaration of biblical truth impacted your spiritual growth?
How can memorizing Scripture help purify your mind, guide your life, give you power, or do something else positive in your life?
Read: Psalm 119:10-12. What are some of the commands of God recorded in the Bible and why is it so important that we know these and follow them? If we did not have The Book to guide our lives, how would you be different than you are?
What are ways we can “Hide God’s Word” in our hearts? How does locking the words of the Bible deep inside of us help us resist sin?
Tell about your personal disciplines of reading the Bible, listening to it, or studying God’s Word. What are helpful patterns of Bible study that you have discovered really work to grow your faith?
How can your group members pray for you, encourage you, and cheer you on as you seek to grow in personal Bible engagement?
