Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Prayer Direction

Read: Philippians 2:5-11. Thank Jesus for His remarkable humility and great love for you! Invite Him to show you practical ways to serve others this week humbly. Ask Him to show you simple steps to grow in humility and glow as a light for Jesus.

“Live It!” Challenge

Secret Service - Identify a neighbor, family member, or classmate who you can bless this week with an act of kindness or words of encouragement. Figure out a way to do this without identifying yourself or letting them know you are doing it or writing the note. Note what you experienced doing so and helped you keep the focus of the act off of yourself and towards Jesus!

Small Group Discussion

  1. Who is someone in your life who exemplifies humility in a powerful yet practical way? What is it that makes you choose them?

  2. Read: Matthew 5:13-16. What was Jesus communicating to His followers in some of the opening words of the Sermon on the Mount?

  3. To the disciples living radically different meant following Jesus passionately through the years of popularity, facing public ridicule and scorn, and during persecution. How does living radically for Jesus look in our current cultural context? How about your life?

  4. Read: Philippians 2:3-11. What was the Apostle Paul trying to communicate to the Philippian Church?

  5. Jesus modeled the highest level of humility through His incarnation, humble life, and His crucifixion. How does this humble you to know that He went to that length of love for you?

  6. Read: 1 Peter 5:5-6. What is Peter (one of Jesus’ closest disciples) encouraging here? How might his words to the church also be an exhortation for you?

  7. Reflecting on this week’s message, how might you serve others, especially non-believers, with greater humility? Be specific and ask your group to pray for you as you take the steps to do so.
