Memorize and Reflect

And they sang a new song, saying:“You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. (Revelation 5:9)

Prayer Direction

1) Pray that our community will be blessed by Shoreline and that God would receive the glory. 2) Give thanks for our Pacific Grove Campus. 3) Ask God to continue to grow and bless our Spanish-speaking ministry (Iglesia Shoreline). 4) Pray for the financial means to fulfill all God wants us to do as we expand more into our community. 5) Invite the Holy Spirit to sensitize our hearts to become more aware of all God’s spiritual blessings and how we can continue to share those with our community. 6) Pray for boldness and courage as we us step out in faith with new ventures in our community.

“Live It!” Challenge

Pay Attention: This week pay special attention to the different people you see around town. Look around your work place, your neighborhood, where you shop, where you go for recreation. Do you notice various tribes, tongues, people groups, and national backgrounds? Then, when you come to Shoreline, look around. Stand for a few minutes in the courtyard or lobby and watch who passes by. Do you see Shoreline reflecting the breadth and beautiful diversity of our community? Thank God for how Shoreline is growing to be a church that reflects God’s love for people of every walk of life!

Small Group Discussion

  1. How would your life be different today if Howie and Linda Hugo had not responded to the call of God to begin Shoreline Church in Monterey over two decades ago?

  2. Some people think that starting new campuses or congregations is a threat to other churches in our community. How can Shoreline seek to be a partner and to help other local churches in the communities where we begin new campuses (in places like Pacific Grove, Marina, and Salinas)?

  3. Watch: Called Video for Week 5
Why is it such a temptation (and often a reality) for churches to stop reaching out and expanding once they have the bills covered and a regular group of people coming to weekend services and church events? How can this damage the present health and future ministry of a church?

  4. Read: Acts 2:5-12, Revelation 5:9-10, Revelation 7:9-10, and Revelation 14:6-7
When the Holy Spirit came on the church at Pentecost, people miraculously heard the message of Jesus in many different languages. Revelation paints a picture of people from every nation and language gathered in heaven to worship God. Why do you think God is so concerned that we understand He loves people from every tribe and nation of the world? How do you see Shoreline growing in our commitment to be a church for all people?

  5. Shoreline has sign language interpretation and translation into Spanish when we gather in Monterey at the third service. How might these ministries help us increase out outreach and the spread of the gospel? We are currently developing a full worship service with music and preaching in Spanish. How might this help us expand our call to “Help as many people as possible become totally committed to Jesus Christ?” Do you know any Spanish speakers you could invite when we add this service?

  6. Read: Acts 10:1-8
How was God at work in the life of Cornelius before he actually came to faith in Jesus? How was God at work in your life before you became a follower of Jesus?

  7. Read: Acts 10:9-23
How did God speak to Peter, move in his life, and prepare him for his ministry to Cornelius and his family? What are ways God has prepared you to have an influence on someone who needed to hear about the love and grace of Jesus?

  8. Read: Acts 10:24-43
When Peter and Cornelius finally met face-to-face, God had already been moving and preparing them both. Why do you think it took so long for Peter to finally realize that God’s love and the grace of Jesus were fully available to people who did not have a Jewish heritage? What are some ways we might look at some people and not think that they would be open to the gospel?

  9. What was the message Peter proclaimed to Cornelius and his family and what impact did it have?

  10. Who is one person in your life that you love and care about who is still far from Jesus? What can you do to help this person hear the message of Jesus and come to understand the greatness of God’s love for them?

  11. How can starting new campuses, gatherings, and services in new languages help us reach more people with the good news of Jesus?
