Memorize and Reflect

Revelation 2:2 I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.

Prayer Direction

Ask God to give you strength to persevere in your faith no matter what you face. Pray for discernment to recognize false teaching that dishonors God and ask for power to stand against it. Pray for your love and devotion to God to grow with every passing day.

“Live It!” Challenge

Remember and Rekindle – Take time in the coming week to think back on a season when your heart was on fire for Jesus and when you really walked close with the Lord you love. Identify one or two behaviors or practices that really connected you to Jesus in that season. Try one of those in your life right now and see if it sparks your heart and creates a connection with Jesus today.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Why does the word intolerance have such negative connotations? What are some of the situations that it is good to be intolerant and this leads to health, safety, or something that honors God?

  2. Read: Revelation 2:1 - Jesus walks among his churches (the lampstands). If we believed Jesus was really with us at home, at our workplace, and when we gather to worship, how might Christians make some adjustment in how we live? (Give specific examples)

  3. What are some of the teachings that can crop up in a church that are false and damaging (but some people are tempted to look the other way)? Why is it so important that Christians follow God’s teachings and not the acceptable practices of the world?

  4. God celebrates when we don’t grow weary (Revelation 2:3). What are some of the things that can cause Christians to grow tired and weary in following the ways of Jesus? What can we do to fortify ourselves and stay strong in how we follow Jesus?

  5. Read: Revelation 2:4-6 - What are some of the signs that come when a Christian is losing their first love (for God and His people)? What do you do to keep the fire of your love for God and people burning hot?

  6. Tell about a time your heart was really on fire for Jesus and you were actively seeking Him and following with a passion. What were some of the actions or behaviors that marked your life?

  7. One of the best ways to make sure our beliefs and solid and we can’t be influenced by false teachers is to dig deeply into the Bible. What is one way you can go deeper into regular reading and study of the Bible in the flow of your week and how can your group members pray for you as you seek to learn and live the truth of Scripture?

  8. Read: Revelation 2:1-7 - What do you hear the Spirit saying to the church and to you through Revelation 2:1-7? How can we take the next step of walking in the victory of Jesus by following the teaching of this passage of the Bible?
