Memorize and Reflect

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)

Prayer Direction

Thank God for your senses. Ask God to help you slow down, notice His good gifts, and to be truly thankful for them. Than God for the people He has placed in your life, beginning with family and moving out into your world.

“Live It!” Challenge

Mirror Time:Spend five minutes in front of a mirror. But, don’t use this time to fix your hair or decide on what outfit to wear. Use this time to look at a person made by the hand of God and love by the Father. As you look at yourself, make a list of ten things about you that should make you thankful…then, give thanks to God for each of these things (silently or out loud if you are feeling bold!).

Small Group Discussion

  1. What are some of the things that can get in the way of us being truly thankful?

  2. Read: Proverbs 20:12
How can each of our senses be used as a conduit for giving thanks to God?

  3. Read: Matthew 6:33
Why is it so important that we keep our priorities straight and make sure we seek God’s will and kingdom before we seek the stuff of this world? In your life, when you have really sought after God’s kingdom and will, how have you seen Him provide the other things you needed (including material resources)?

  4. Read: Revelation 4:11 and Psalm 19:1-6
What is one of your favorite places in God’s creation and how does being in this place lead you to thankfulness?

  5. Why do you think God was so creative, diverse, and opulent in the way He created our world?

  6. Read: Genesis 1:26-27
Tell about a person in your life that you are deeply thankful for. What is it about how God has made this person that leads you to thankfulness?

  7. How do you see the image and even (at times) the glory of God shine through people around you?

  8. What can we do to more reflect the image and presence of God through our lives?

  9. Read: Psalm 139:13-14
What gets in the way of people appreciating who God has made them? Why is it important for us to thank God for how He has made us?

  10. What is one unique way God has made you and why are you thankful for this specific aspect of who you are?
