Memorize and Reflect

Matthew 2:1-2
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”

Prayer Direction

Thank God that He willingly entered human history at a real time and in a real place so that we could know Him. Praise Jesus for coming humbly so that He could bear your sins and set you free from the bondage of the enemy and the grave!

“Live It!” Challenge

Get the Big Picture – In this first week of our Christmas series you will notice that we scheduled you to read all of the Christmas stories recorded in the Gospels. Take time to read them and notice how each one reveals unique and fresh insights into the coming of God Almighty into human history.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What is one of your first positive and joyful Christmas memories? Why do you think this is locked into your mind and heart?

  2. If someone from another culture or part of the world that does not celebrate Christmas moved next door to you and asked, “What is this whole Christmas thing about?” How could you explain it to them?

  3. Read: Micah 5:1 and Matthew 2:1-8. How was Jesus the fulfillment of Micah’s prophecy and other prophetic words spoken long before He came into our world?

  4. The wise men searched and came seeking the king who was born. What are ways that people can search and seek to find Jesus in our world today?

  5. Who is a person you love who has still not encountered and embraced Jesus as their Messiah? How are you praying for this person during the Christmas season?

  6. Jesus is the King of the universe and the King over all kings. What are ways you can honor and worship Jesus as the King of your life?

  7. In Jesus’ day, there were people who resisted and sought to destroy our Savior. How are people seeking to do these same evil things today? What can we do to resist and battle back against these kinds of destructive people?

  8. Jesus was and is the Good Shepherd! How have you experienced Jesus as the loving Shepherd over your life?
