Memorize and Reflect
Romans 12:6-8We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
Prayer Direction
Ask God to help you see how using your specific spiritual gift (or gifts) can make a difference in your home, church, community, and world. Pray for commitment to make time to use the gifts God has given you on a weekly basis. Pray for Shoreline Church to be a place where every believer uses their God-given gifts as a blessing.“Live It!” Challenge
Fill in the Dot! – At Shoreline Church, when you take a spiritual gift test, there is a spot you can fill in that says you want to meet with someone one-on-one who can help you discern the next steps. This person is trained and excited to help you engage in meaningful ministry using your spiritual gifts. Take the test. Fill in the dot. Meet with someone. And see what God does through you!Small Group Discussion
Tell about a time you were able to serve others with a spiritual gift God has given you, and describe the difference God made in life, the church, or the world through your service.
Read: Romans 12:6-8. What does this passage say to a person who has never discovered their spiritual gifts? What do you think God is saying to people who know their gift(s) but are not using them at this time in their lives?
Read: Romans 12:13-16. It is clear that using our spiritual gifts is just the first part of God’s calling on our lives. Our attitudes and how we serve matter to God. What does this passage teach us about the correct attitudes and heart conditions that will help us use our gifts in a way that honors Jesus and serves people well? What should we develop, and what should we avoid?
Read: Ephesians 4:1-6. What are all of the “Ones” listed in this passage, and why is each of them important?
Why are humility and gentleness essential when we serve Jesus in the church and the world around us? What might happen if we use our gifts with arrogance and pride?
What kind of things get in the way of us faithfully and consistently using our gifts to honor God and serve People? What can we do to overcome these hurdles?
Why is it so important for Christians to rejoice with people who are in a time of celebration and joy? What are ways we can do this?
Why is it so important for Christians to mourn and sorrow with people who are in a time of hurt, pain, and sorrow? What are ways we can do this?
What is the next step you can take into God’s will for your life as you discover, develop, and deploy the spiritual gifts He has given you? How can your group members cheer you on and keep you accountable to take action in this part of your life?
