Memorize and Reflect

Ephesians 4:12
…equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up

Prayer Direction

Ask God to help you make time to be equipped, prepared, and strong in your areas of gifting. Ask God to help you see times when you can encourage others to grow in their spiritual gifts.

“Live It!” Challenge

Get Trained – If you are serving in an area of ministry, take advantage of any training opportunities they offer. If your ministry area is not offering training to help you develop your gifts and serve more effectively, encourage your leader to plan a time of equipping.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a time you were part of a training or equipping experience that helped you become more effective in the ministry you do. How did this time of gift development help you serve Jesus more effectively?

  2. Read: 1 Corinthians 12:12-14. God wants his people to serve Him by using their gifts in community and harmony. Why is unity in our theology, our baptism, and our community life essential if we are going to build a strong and healthy church?

  3. In the ancient world, people felt divided and conflicted over things like gender and national background (see v.13). What are some of the things that can bring division among God’s people today, and how do we resist these divisive pitfalls?

  4. Read: 1 Corinthians 12:15-20. What are some of the things that can make us feel like we are not needed in the life of the church (God’s family)?

  5. Why is it essential that we identify and recognize the divisive tactics of our spiritual enemy and refuse to believe his lies?

  6. Read: 1 Corinthians 12:21-26. In the apostle Paul’s day, as in our day, it is easy to write people off and think that they are not valuable (even in the church). What are some ways this can happen, and how do we avoid this?

  7. Paul paints a stunning picture of community life and unity in love. He calls believers to share in each other’s suffering and rejoicing. What are ways we can meaningfully share in the suffering and joy of other believers?

  8. Read: Romans 12:9-12. In this brief passage, right in the middle of a deep teaching on spiritual gifts, there are at least ten attitudes or behaviors that will help us serve God and others well. What are they, and why are they important?

  9. Read: Ephesians 4:12-16. In this passage, we see some of the powerful results that come when we build a unified church filled with gifted people who serve the Lord and the Church as they use their spiritual gifts. What are some of the amazing things that can happen in our lives and the Church when this happens?
