Memorize and Reflect

1 Corinthians 12:1
Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.

Prayer Direction

Ask God to help you discover and celebrate the unique ways He has gifted you by His grace. Pray for wisdom to grow in your gifts and use them for the glory of Jesus in new ways.

“Live It!” Challenge

Do the Assessment – Even if you have already done a Spiritual Gifts Assessment in the past, take time to either do the online self-assessment on the Shoreline website or take the one-hour class with Sherry. When you do, identify your top two gifts and begin praying that God will help you grow in these gifts over the coming weeks.

Small Group Discussion

  1. If you have taken a Spiritual Gifts Assessment, what are your areas of Holy Spirit-given giftedness, and what is a way you have used one of your gifts to serve God, His people, and the world?

  2. Read: 1 Corinthians 12:1-3. Why do you think this passage warns us not to be uninformed about the gifts of the Spirit? How can knowing your gifts and using them for God’s glory help keep us from wandering in our faith?

  3. When the Holy Spirit is in us, and we are following His leading (including using the gifts He has given us) how does this lead us to declaring Jesus is Lord? In what ways does it lead us to follow the Lordship and leading of Jesus?

  4. Read: 1 Corinthians 12:7-11. Paul says that we are given the gifts of the Spirit “for the common good.” If all of God’s people used their gifts as God intended, how would this strengthen Shoreline Church? How might the church look different, in a good way?

  5. We have different gifts, but it is the one Holy Spirit who imparts them in our lives. What would the church look like if everyone had the same spiritual gift? What would we be missing if this was the spiritual reality?

  6. Share about how you have seen people with various gifts working together for the glory of Jesus. When this happens, what does this do to the heart of God, and what does it do for the world?

  7. Read: Ephesians 4:7-13[/bible. Some gifts (like pastoring and teaching) are given to equip and prepare all of God’s people so they can use their gifts. Why is it important to realize that church leaders are not called to do all of the ministry? Instead, they are called to equip all of God’s people to do their ministry.

  8. What good things happen in a church when everyone is equipped to serve Jesus, the church, and the world according to their gifts? What are some of the bad consequences if a church believes that the pastor is called to do all the ministry and church members are primarily recipients of ministry (not partners in it)?
