Memorize and Reflect
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)Prayer Direction
Thank Jesus for His willingness to humble Himself and come to the earth fully man and yet fully God. Thank Him for His model of humble service as both the Suffering Servant and as the Son of God. Ask Him to show you areas in your life that are holding you back from completely following Him. Ask Him to also show you ways to better serve Him, His church, and the people He has placed in your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the courage and strength to take the next steps in surrendering and serving Jesus.“Live It!” Challenge
Not to Be Served but to Serve: Jesus proclaims to His followers that He Himself “did not come to be served, but came to serve” (Mark 10:45). This week, write down one specific way that you could model Jesus’ call to serve in your family, in your community, at your church, and in your workplace. Pray over this and then do it.Small Group Discussion

How did this final act of Jesus before His resurrection, publicly demonstrate and challenge one of the most loyal followers of Caesar to change his mind about Jesus?
Read: Isaiah 53. As you read, write down specific examples of where you see this prophecy being fulfilled in Jesus?
How does reading this portion of the Old Testament, written approximately 700 years before Jesus birth, embolden and reinforce the truth of Jesus and your faith in Him?
Read: Mark 8:34-35. What do we learn about the high cost of following Jesus? What do you think Jesus meant when He said “deny themselves and take up their cross”? What is one specific way you have seen this in your own life?
Read: Mark 10:42-45. If Jesus the Son of God and King of Kings came to serve humanity, how does that set an example for us as we interact with people on a daily basis?
Who are the people in your life that you see as people Jesus has entrusted you to both lead and to serve? What is one specific way you could humbly serve them this week? Be prepared to share the specifics and the outcome next week.
Read: Mark 10:13-16. In this beautiful scene we see the love that Jesus has for children. What is one specific way that Jesus demonstrated this to His disciples, the people, and to the children? What is one specific way that you can demonstrate Jesus’ love for your own children/grandchildren and for the children of Shoreline Church?
