1 Peter 1:15-16But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
Prayer Direction
Thank God for His eternal holiness and the beauty and blessing of that eternal truth. Thank Him for His great love for us and His hatred of sin and evil that threatens our relationship with Him. Thank Him for His plan of salvation to send Jesus to pay the penalty for that sin and grant us the right to be called “Holy and Blameless” before God. Invite Him to show you anything that is not good, right, and true in your life, such as unconfessed sin or destructive habits and patterns that are pulling you away from Him. Invite Him to show you how you can grow in holiness this week and for years to come.“Live It!” Challenge
A Week of Fasting - Designate something in your life (media, food item, favorite beverage, etc.) that you can fast from daily as a reminder of God’s presence in your life and your desire to set it apart as a way to commit to God in prayer and time of reflection of who He is and what he has done for you in Jesus! Invite a friend or family member to pray for you and hold you accountable as you fast this week. At the end of the week, share with them what you learned about God and from this practice of fasting.Small Group Discussion
When you hear the phrase “God is Holy, Holy, Holy,” what comes to mind? In your own words, how would you describe Holiness?
Read: Isaiah 6:1-3 and Revelation 4:8. Although these two scripture passages were written approximately 800 years apart, what do we see in common between the two?
Read: Ezekiel 39:7 and Mark 1:24. What do these verses reveal about God and His name? How did Jesus embody this reality?
When someone has difficulty understanding that Jesus is God and that He is revealed in the Old and New Testaments, how might the above four verses help you communicate the truth?
Read: 1 Peter 1:15-16. How can followers of Jesus live out this command personally and practically?
Reflecting on this week’s message, how can you grow in holiness this week and this year? Be specific and ask your group to pray for you.
