Memorize and Reflect

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7)

Prayer Direction

Thank God that He can bring peace to your heart and mind, even in times of real turmoil. Pray that God will give you such profound peace that others (in particular those who don’t know Jesus) will ask you where this peace comes from. Then, pray for boldness to tell them about Jesus, the source of your peace.

“Live It!” Challenge

Slow Down: In this time of much turmoil and rapid change, seek to slow down before you make big or even small decisions. Pray a little more, gain wise counsel from godly friends and family members, and ask the Holy Spirit to help you make decisions out of a place of thoughtful peace and not anxious reflex.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Read: Philippians 4:4-7. How have you been growing in peace over the last week since you began to walk the pathway to peace that we discover in Philippians 4?

  2. Which of the peace-producing actions found in Philippians 4:4-7 have you found most helpful and how can you increase your focus on this step into peace?

  3. Tell about a time you felt real peace because you kept your eyes on Jesus and did not let the anxiety of this world take over. How did others respond to your peaceful disposition?

  4. Tell about a person you know who just seems to walk in deep peace so that others can see that there is something very attractive and different about this person. How does this person’s faith lead to real peace?

  5. What are ways our heart can race and move in wrong directions if anxiety takes over and peace is nowhere to be seen? Do you have an example of this from your life or the life of a person you know?

  6. What are ways we can make poor decisions and regretful choices when our mind is ruled by anxiety rather than the peace of Jesus? Do you have an example of this from your life or the life of a person you know?

  7. What is one area of life where you need to experience fresh peace in your heart and how can your small group members help you and pray for you?
