Memorize and Reflect

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Prayer Direction

Take time praying in some of these directions:
- Confess where you are anxious and battling worry.
- Thank God for His simple provision of food and clothes and recognize these are gifts from your heavenly Father.
- Lay your burdens at the feet of Jesus and pray for God’s peace to descend on your life.

“Live It!” Challenge

The Value of Anxiety – Make a list of the five things that cause the most worry in your life in a normal week. Then, write down how your anxiety helps or makes a difference in each of these areas of your life. Acknowledge that prayer and action can make a difference, but worry never changes things.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What is causing anxiety and worry in your life in this season?

  2. Read: Matthew 6:25-34. What are ways God has provided for you and proved His faithfulness through the years?

  3. What impact does worry and anxiety have on our lives? What good does it do?

  4. What does it mean to seek God’s kingdom and will above all other things?

  5. How have you seen God show up, provide, and lead you when you were being careful to focus on His will and desires for your life and not all the things we tend to worry about?

  6. How can your small group members pray for you in one area of potential worry in your life?

  7. Read: Philippians 4:4-9. What is the difference between rejoicing in everything that happens and rejoicing in the Lord no matter what happens?

  8. How can our gentleness be seen by others and what is a step forward you can take in public gentleness?

  9. Why is thankfulness so important, even in hard times?

  10. What are practical ways we can keep our mind focused on the kind of things listed in Philippians 4:8?
