"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet." (John 13:14)Prayer Direction
Thank Jesus for serving you by giving His life on the cross. Pray that you will keep your eyes on Jesus each day and remember that He served you more than you will ever be able to serve anyone else. Ask God to help you find joy in serving and for it to become a natural part of your daily life.“Live It!” Challenge
Secret Service: Identify three people and think of one act of service you can offer for each person. Make a point of doing this act of service, but do everything you can to keep it secret. Don’t let the person know it was you and don’t tell others what you did. Keep this between you and God and see how this discipline impacts your heart and faith.Small Group Discussion
Tell about one person in your life who always seemed to have a servant’s heart. How did (does) their lifestyle of service reflect the humble attitude of Jesus? How do others view this person?
Read: Romans 12:3-8.
Why do you think a call to humility (v.3) is the preamble to the apostle Paul’s teaching about various spiritual gifts? How does the use of spiritual gifts change if they are guided with humility versus driven by pride? Give a specific example.If you have a sense of one spiritual gift God has given you, what is it and how are you seeking to use it for the glory of God and as a blessing to others? How can your group members encourage and pray for you as you serve using this unique gifting?
Read: John 13:1-17.
How did Jesus view himself and what did he know about himself, even before he served? How did a clear awareness of who he was propel Jesus forward into service rather than hinder him from serving his followers?Jesus washed the feet of Peter (one who would deny him), Thomas (one who would doubt him), and Judas (one who would betray him). What does this teach us about who we should serve?
Who is one person it is difficult for you to serve, but you know God wants you to humbly serve this person? What action do you feel God wants you to take and how can your group members cheer you on?

If leaders in the church are called to “Equip God’s people for works of service” how can you pray for your church leaders and encourage them in this unique and important aspect of their ministry? How can you partner more closely and passionately with your church leaders as you do the work of Jesus together?How does the body of Christ (the local church) become stronger and healthier when every Christian discovers develops, and uses their unique gifting for the glory of Jesus? How is the church weakened when many members come to receive only and don’t find their place of service?
What is one way you can begin serving in your church, or go deeper into an area of ministry where you are already serving? How can your group members pray for you and inspire you to grow as a servant of Jesus?
