Small Group Discussion
What is one volunteer service experience you have had in your life and what made you commit to serving in that role/event?
Read: Matthew 20:20-28. What was James, John, and their mother’s request and motivation? How did Jesus correct their way of thinking?
What are examples in life when we expect to be served? How might Jesus’ teaching on this cause us to rethink these expectations?
Read: John 13:1-17. What cultural norm did Jesus blow out of the water by willingly washing His disciples' feet? What does that say about Jesus' love for others and His willingness to serve them practically?
What might be some examples of “foot washing” in our culture today?
Read: 1 Peter 4:10-11. What do we learn from this passage? What are your spiritual gifts, and how are you currently serving the church with those gifts?
As you reflect on this week’s message, how might you serve others more intentionally? Be specific and ask your group to pray for you as you take the steps to do so.
