Memorize and Reflect

"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12)

Prayer Direction

Ask God to give you a bold and confidant heart to draw near to Him and ask, seek, and knock. Thank God for the many ways He has given to you and opened the door to you. Praise God that He never gives you stones to eat or snakes to play with.

“Live It!” Challenge

Golden Rule Living: Try a simple but challenging exercise for one day this coming week. In every situation, try to ask the question, "Is this what I would want others to do for me?" Then, seek to do for others as you would want them to do for you.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about one Christian in your life who has really tried to live out the Golden Rule Jesus taught…to do to others what you would have them do for you. How have you seen Jesus alive in the life of this person?

  2. Read: Matthew 7:7-11
What distinctions do you see between asking, seeking and knocking? Why are all of these important?

  3. How have you experienced God giving to you when you have asked of Him?

  4. Tell about how you have found Jesus the times you have really tried to seek after Him? How can we seek after God with greater passion?

  5. Tell about how you became a Christian and how, in your seeking, you found Jesus. As a bonus, you can share how you sense God was seeking you out before your were a follower of Jesus.

  6. What are some of the ways you see parents loving and caring for their children? How do you see God, as a heavenly Father, caring for you and others?

  7. How can you show appreciation and love back to God for all of the ways He loves and cares for you?

  8. Read: Matthew 7:12
How would the world change if every Christian actually followed the Golden Rule? In what situations do you find it most challenging to follow the Golden Rule and how can you be more intentional about doing to others what you would have them do to you?
