For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Prayer Direction

Thank God for the people who have taken your hand and helped you grow in faith. Pray for the opportunity to take someone else’s hand and help them go deeper in their relationship with Jesus. Ask for courage to follow Jesus’ leading whatever the cost might be.

“Live It!” Challenge

Find a Spiritual Mentor – Elisha had Elijah! Who is investing in your spiritual growth journey? Pray about who you might ask to begin spending time with you every 30 days to help you grow in your faith. Have this person ask about what you are learning from the Scriptures. Ask them to help you grow in prayer. Have them keep you accountable to serve Jesus consistently and to give generously. Let them help you become more like Jesus.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a person God used to help you come to faith in Jesus. What did this person do to influence your spiritual journey?

  2. Tell about how God is using you to help another person grow in their faith. What practices have you found that make this discipleship process meaningful?

  3. Read: 1 Kings 19:19-21. What did Elisha have to leave behind to really follow God’s lead in his life?

  4. What have you had to leave behind to follow Jesus with growing devotion? How did leaving these things behind impact your life?

  5. What are things you need to leave behind to take your next step of faithful following of Jesus? How can your group members pray for you as you walk this road and make this sacrifice?

  6. Read: Matthew 16:24-26. What has Jesus called his followers to do? Why is His calling so high and what helps us follow Him even when it is costly?

  7. What can we do to make ourselves easily disreputable when God wants to lead us in a new direction?

  8. What can you do to become a humbler learner as you follow Jesus? Who is one person that you trust and who you learn from? What have they taught you recently?
