Memorize and Reflect

Philippians 2:5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus…

Prayer Direction

Lord of grace, thank you for sharing forgiveness with me…I confess my sins and receive your amazing grace. Offer up prayers of thanks for the material provision God has given you. Give thanks for the gift of people and rich relationships. Pray for courage and power to grow more generous and more joyful as God provides for you.

“Live It!” Challenge

One More Step – Take the next step in your giving toward the ministry of your church. God has placed you in a local church, His family. Decide on your next step in supporting the financial needs of your church. If you give nothing, make a commitment to give something every week. Pray about the right amount to start with. If you give regularly, pray about taking a step forward and stretching yourself to give a little more. In all of your giving, ask the Holy Spirit to bring you joy for the privilege of sharing in the work of Jesus.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Write down four or five material things you have that you are truly thankful for. As you look at this list, share how God has provided one or more of these things.

  2. Tell about a Christian you know who is relentlessly and joyfully generous. How do you see Jesus in the heart and life of this person?

  3. What are some of the big obstacles to people being generous with their finances and material things? How can a deep awareness of the goodness of God and generosity of Jesus help unleash generosity in our lives?

  4. Read: Luke 9:14-17 and John 13:12-13
How did Jesus model joyful generosity through his coming to earth, his life, his death on the cross, and His resurrection?

  5. If we are becoming more like Jesus, what are specific and practical ways our faith should impact how we share the things God has given us?

  6. Read: John 14:1-7. Jesus was not only generous with material things, but He also freely shared words of truth. He was the truth and spoke only the truth. What are some of the true words of Jesus that people in our world need to hear today?

    Words about who He is…
Words about who we are (and who we can be through faith in Him)…
    Words about eternity…
Words about hope in this life…
    Other words…

  7. Read: Philippians 2:5-8
Jesus gave everything to you and me…even His own life. What is one thing you are clinging to that you just can’t seem to release to Jesus? How can your small group members pray for you and encourage you as you seek to offer this to Jesus?

  8. How should remembering Jesus’ example of sharing all He had (and all He was) with you inspire a greater level of joyful generosity?

  9. What is one next step of generosity you believe God wants you to take and how can your group members keep you accountable to move forward in this part of your spiritual journey?
