Memorize and Reflect

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Prayer Direction

Thank God for your physical body and the truth of God’s Word to inspire and call us to care for our bodies. Thank Him for His love for you and the partnership He calls us into proclaiming His glory and sharing His love in Jesus with a hurting and broken world. Pray that you may fully recognize and accept the goodness of God’s plan for your body and embrace a healthy lifestyle that glorifies, honors and pleases Him. Pray for the wisdom and motivation to make positive steps towards caring properly for your body this year and for years to come.

“Live It!” Challenge

Pray to Your Creator Take time this week to memorize and meditate on 1 Corinthians 10:31. Ask yourself if your daily life and care for your body is bringing glory to God in your eating, exercise/activity, and rest/sleep. In each of these areas write down one item that you want to take steps in over the next 30 days and find someone to pray and partner with you to take those steps.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about one of your funniest New Year’s resolutions and what made it so memorable?

  2. Read: Psalm 139 When you think of the intricacy of the body’s design and how uniquely and intimately you were created and cared for within your mother’s womb, how does that transform how you see your body today?

  3. How does knowing the God who created you, loves you, and made a way for you and He to be in relationship through Jesus, also wants you to care for your body?

  4. Read: Ephesians 2:10, Romans 12:1, and 1 Corinthians 10:31 How do these verses motivate us and encourage us of the importance of maintaining a healthy body and why?

  5. Read: Proverbs 15:22 How does this verse help us understand the importance of developing a plan for improving our physical health? What types of resources would you consider using to help you develop the plan?

  6. When you consider your current eating habits and diet, how does it compare to the encouragement to eat moderate portions of God-made food more frequently? What simple steps can you take to make adjustments in your eating?

  7. Read: Proverbs 14:15 Reflecting on this verse, how can we take encouragement in knowing that consistency over time generally provides us with the best long-term physical health? Tip: Patience and discipline exercised by taking small and purposeful steps have greater potential and less health risk than trying to take great leaps and going to extremes.

  8. Read: 1 Timothy 4:8 While not negating the importance of physical fitness and training, how does this verse warn us of becoming too focused on our fitness? Why do you think the Apostle Paul would use this comparison?

  9. Read: Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 and Proverbs 27:17 What do these verses tell us about the importance of partnering with others who will both encourage and exhort you to make the changes needed to improve your physical health? Who is one person in your group that would “sharpen” you and who is someone you can “sharpen” in their own pursuit of a healthy lifestyle?
