Memorize and Reflect
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)Prayer Direction
Thank God for giving you a mind with which to think, dream, and love Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you of things you are watching and viewing that do not edify or purify your mind. Then, pray for strength to remove these from your watch list. Ask God to show you ways you can focus your mind more on Him and the things that glorify Him…then, follow what He shows you.“Live It!” Challenge
Pray to Your Shepherd Take time this week to memorize Psalm 23. It is only six verses long. If you learn one verse a day you will have it locked in your mind for a lifetime. Once you have the whole Psalm memorized, recite it every day for one month, making it your own prayer.Small Group Discussion
Tell about one Bible passage that is locked in your mind and heart. What does this passage mean to you and why is it helpful to have it locked in your mind?
Read: Jeremiah 31:33 and Psalm 119:11, 15 How can committing specific passages to memory help fortify your mind, shape your thinking, and empower you to resist sin and temptation?
What is one specific passage you want to memorize (read it to your group)? Why do you want to memorize it? How can committing this passage to memory strengthen your faith?
Read: Romans 12:2 and Romans 8:5-7 What specific things can we do to keep our minds fixed on the things that honor God’s Holy Spirit? What specific things can we do to keep our minds off of the things of the flesh (that don’t glorify God)?
What are games you play or have played that exercise the mind, sharpen your thinking, or stretch your intellect? How can playing good games actually exercise the muscle of your mind?
Read: 2 Timothy 1:13 Why does the Bible call us to know and hold to “sound teaching”? What are ways we can deepen our understanding of correct doctrine and grow our knowledge of what the Bible teaches? What steps can you take to grow your understanding of doctrine and let it transform your life?
What are some of the things that are distracting and fragmenting our thinking in our modern age? How can we learn to create space for deep thinking, reflection, and growth of our minds?
What are practical ways you can turn off or block out the things that fragment your thinking and weaken your mind? How can your group members pray for you and keep you accountable to develop disciplines that strengthen your mind for the glory of Jesus?
