14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. John 13:14-15Prayer Direction
Thank Jesus for showing us His humble service through washing feet and giving His life on the cross. Pray for power and courage to begin serving with greater humility and frequency.“Live It!” Challenge
My If…Then – Choose one of these “If” … “Then” action items: - If He served me…Then I will serve others! - If He has cleansed me… Then I will tell others that cleansing is freely available. - If He called me… Then I will do the ministry He has assigned. - If He named me… Then I will live with humble confidence. - If He empowers me…Then I will stand strong. Identify one specific action you can take that will be your “Then” and do it this week.Small Group Discussion
What are the signs you see that our world is becoming more self-centered? What are signs in your own life and heart that you are slipping into me-centered living?
Read: John 13:1-17 - How is Jesus consistent in both his lifestyle and teaching? Why is it so important that we live out what we call others to do?
Jesus asked the disciples if they understood what he had done when he washed their feet. How would you describe what Jesus did on both a physical and spiritual level?
Who is Jesus? Take time as a group to really unpack this. What are the names for Jesus? Who is He in His very being? Why is it critical that we identify who Jesus is as we watch Him wash feet?
Read: John 13:14-15 - Jesus was clear that he was setting them an example of radical and humble service. What are other ways Jesus served people and how does He still serve us today?
Read: John 13:16 - What is Jesus getting at with these two comparisons? What message should this speak to our hearts today?
How have you experienced blessing while serving others? What blessings do we miss if we live self-centered lives?
Who is one person you believe God wants you to serve with greater humility and frequency? What will you do and how can your group members pray for you and encourage you on this journey of spiritual growth?
Who is a non-believer you will serve and how might this act of humble service show Jesus to them?
