Memorize and Reflect

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Prayer Direction

Thank Jesus for giving you new life, new hope, and a fresh beginning every morning! Ask God to help you live each day with a clear conviction that God is ready to give you (and every person you meet) a fresh beginning filled with hope and joy. Pray for one person you love that does not yet know Jesus. Ask God’s Holy Spirit to show them that the new beginning they need is found in Jesus.

“Live It!” Challenge

Make an Invitation – Think of one person you care about who has wandered away from engaging in Christian fellowship over the past two years. Pray that in this New Year they will reengage with Jesus and His people. Then, reach out to them and invite this person (and their family if this applies) to join you for church at Shoreline for the next eight-weeks as we focus on what it means to be a follower of Jesus in our Organic Disciples series.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a time a person extended forgiveness and gave you a new beginning. How did this feel and how did it impact you?

  2. Read: Genesis 1:1-5. What do you learn about God the Father when you read the opening verses of Genesis?

  3. Read: John 1:1-5 & John 1:14. What do you learn about God the Son when you read this passage?

  4. How do you think a devoted Jewish person (who knew Genesis chapter one very well) would have understood these words about Jesus that begin John’s Gospel?

  5. How is Jesus the new beginning, the new creation, and the One who makes all things new? How have you experienced this reality?

  6. Read: John 4:4-26. How did Jesus treat this woman and how was it a new beginning in human history?

  7. How has Jesus shown you love, grace, and fresh beginnings in your life?

  8. How does Jesus bring full satisfaction, fresh energy, and new beginnings into our lives as we follow Him?

  9. Read: John 4:27-42. How did the woman in this passage respond to the love, grace, and truth Jesus brought to her life?

  10. How can you go to the people in the place where you live and tell them about who Jesus is and what He has done for you? How can your group members pray for you as you seek to share the story and love of Jesus with others?
