Memorize and Reflect

Matthew 22:37-38
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.

Prayer Direction

Thank God for being so close that you can actually have a living relationship with him. Confess where you have been distracted and disconnected from him. Ask God for power and commitment to seek Him first and adjust your life around his will for you.

“Live It!” Challenge

Listen and Talk – If you do not already have a rhythm of spending time with God on a daily basis, here is a powerful way to begin. Set aside a time each day to do two things.
1. Open your Bible (or Bible app) and read (or listen to) the daily passage provided on this page.
2. Identify one theme that strikes you from the passage and pray that God moves in your life today through the truth or lesson in the passage.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a time you felt close and connected with God. What made this time so meaningful?

  2. Read: Matthew 6:31-34. What does Jesus mean when he calls his followers to “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness”? What are specific ways we can do this?

  3. What are signs in our lives in general (or in your life specifically) that we can look for that indicate we have lost our focus and are not seeking him first?

  4. Read: Psalm 139:1-18. What do you learn about intimacy with God in this Psalm? What does this passage teach us about God’s desire to be close and connected with his children?

  5. How can one of these obstacles get in the way of you being in a close relationship with God?
    - Staying super busy…
    - Feeling guilty because of ongoing sin in your life…
    - Being paralyzed because of fear of things in this world…

  6. What is one way you can slow down your pace so you can spend more time with Jesus?

  7. How can you walk in the forgiveness of Jesus at a deeper level so you can let go of the shame and guilt that keep you from drawing near Jesus?

  8. How can you use your spiritual gifts and partner with Jesus in some kind of service in the world around you? How might this connect you more with your Savior? (If you have never done the Spiritual Gifts Assessment, pop by the connection center on Sunday and ask about it. If you are online, reach out to the church and ask for help with this).
