Memorize and Reflect

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” (Philippians 2:3-4)

Prayer Direction

Ask God to help you grow in humility by following the example of Christ. Pray that pride can be eliminated from your life so that you can fulfill God’s mission and achieve true greatness in him!

“Live It!” Challenge

Track Your Pride: Take one week and sit down at the end of the day and write down moments where personal pride slipped into your life and actions. This may be a moment when you had to win an argument, you judged someone unfairly, or you reacted too passionately because your ego was hurt. Then pray to God every morning to help you act with humility and see how this changes over the week.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Read: Philippians 2:3-11.

  2. What does this passage say about true greatness? Do you view greatness this way?

  3. How do you think people in the world around us generally appreciate or value humility? Why?

  4. Why is the world’s understanding of humility severely limited? How does knowing Christ help us access true humility?

  7. Who do you know in your life that has shown humility in the way they live? What do you think it was that made them humble?

  8. How can your group members come along side of you to help in your quest towards Christ-like humility? What can you do in the next week to work towards this?
