Memorize and Reflect

Mark 10:45
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Prayer Direction

Thank Jesus for the sacrifice He made by coming to this earth, dying for you, and removing all the guilt of your sins. Pray for courage and strength to live for Jesus no matter what the cost.

“Live It!” Challenge

Praying like Jesus – Read Mark 10:45 over and over. Reflect on this simple message. Jesus came to serve, not to be served. Pray that you can have the same attitude and outlook as Jesus, your Lord.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a person in your life who has lived with consistent sacrifice for other people and for Jesus. What have you learned from the example of this person?

  2. Read: Mark 10:42-45. What does Jesus say about the way people in this world see their relationship with others? How have you seen evidence that this is true in the lives of others and even in your own life?

  3. Next, Jesus flips the worldly outlook and tells His followers that they are to live radically differently. What would our lives look like (be specific) if Christians followed the call of Jesus in Mark 10:43-44?

  4. How does the teaching of Jesus Mark 10:45 and example of our Savior inspire you to live as a servant to the people around you?

  5. Read: John 15:12-15. What does Jesus call his followers to do in this passage? How might our relationships change if we lived this out in our daily interactions?

  6. What does it mean to say that we are friends of Jesus? How do you feel when you realize what Jesus did to prove His friendship with you?

  7. Read: John 19:25-30. What do you learn from the three things (in this passage) Jesus said while He was on the cross?

  8. How does Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross give you a picture of how you should love and serve other people?

  9. What gets in the way of you surrendering your life fully to Jesus and following Him with full sacrifice?

  10. How can your group members pray for you as you seek to follow Jesus with radical devotion and full surrender?
