Memorize and Reflect

Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks (John 4:23)

Prayer Direction

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you fresh passion for prayer and worship. Take time to confess hidden sins in your heart and life. Pray for discipline to make worship with God’s people a regular part of your week.

“Live It!” Challenge

Post some Prayers and Praises Make three copies of a card with four prayer prompts: 1) a Family need; 2) a Shoreline need; 3) a global or national need; 4) a reason for praise. Post this card on your fridge, your bathroom mirror, and on the door you use to leave your home. Each time you see the card, lift up a prayer or a praise for the next week.

Small Group Discussion

  1. What is one worship song that really inspires you and draws you near to the heart of God? Why do you think this song stirs your heart to worship?

  2. Tell about how you learned to pray. Who taught you and how did they teach you to pray? How has your prayer life grown since you first learned to communicate with God in prayer?

  3. Read: Psalm 95:1-7 According to this Psalm, what are some of the reasons we should worship our God? What are some of the ways we can worship God?

  4. There are many physical postures for worship and prayer (Standing, sitting, kneeling, laying, hands lifted, and even dancing). Why is it important that we engage our bodies in worship and prayer? What are ways you express yourself physically as you worship and pray?

  5. Think through a worship service. Talk about each element of a gathered worship experience and describe what it looks like when we are fully and deeply engaged in each element of worship: Gathering, Singing, Praying, Giving Back, Learning through a sermon, Fellowship with other believers, Reading Scripture…more.

  6. Read: James 5:13-14 Prayer should be central in our lives from the low points of sorrow to the heights of joy. Tell about how prayer empowers you and carries you through the highs and lows of life.

  7. What are ways we can worship in the flow of a normal day when we are alone or with others? How can you make worship more central in the rhythm of your life?

  8. Take ten minutes to do a little prayer walk wherever you are meeting. As you walk, look around, and pray…ask God to guide your prayers and open your eyes to needs you might normally miss. When you re-gather as a group, share what you experienced on your ten-minute prayer walk.
