John 1:14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Prayer Direction
Thank Jesus for taking on human flesh and becoming one of us so that he could die in our place and pay the price for our sins. Pray for opportunities to tell many stories of God’s presence, power, and provision in your life this Christmas season.“Live It!” Challenge
Tell Your Story – Think of one person in your life who you love and who does not know the story of Jesus (in a deep and personal way). Pray for an opportunity to share the story of how you came to faith in Jesus with this person during the Christmas season. As you tell your story, be sure to share Jesus’ story of His birth, life, death, and resurrection as the payment to cleanse you from all your sins (wrongs).Small Group Discussion
What is one of your most vivid Christmas memories from your childhood, and why is it still locked in your mind and heart?
Who told you the story of Jesus in ways that really made sense to you? How did they tell the story, and how did it impact you when you heard about Jesus’ birth, life, and sacrificial death?
Read: Matthew 1:18-23. What do you learn about Mary in this account? What do you learn about Joseph?
How do you think you might have responded if you had been in Mary or Joseph’s situation?
Read: Luke 2:1-7. Why do you think God would choose to have His only beloved and precious son born to humble people in such a strange way and in such strange circumstances?
Read: John 1:1-15. What do we learn about Jesus (The Word) in this passage?
Read: John 1:9-14. What additional insights do we gain into who Jesus was from this passage in John’s Gospel?
The first chapter of John gives a unique perspective on Jesus as “God with us.” How did Jesus’ coming into the world change history?
How has it changed your life? How can your group members pray for your life to keep changing because of Jesus’ coming and presence?
