Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in: Jerusalem lies in ruins, and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, and we will no longer be in disgrace.” (Nehemiah 2:17 )


Prayer Direction

Lord, thank you that You are a God of order, you remove chaos and lead us to fresh new beginnings. Pray for God’s will, order, and leading in an area of life that is presently in disorder. Ask God to help you plan and prepare for His purposes and will in your life.

  1. Tell about an area of your life where you need to plan, pray, and take action to experience forward movement towards God’s will and desires for you.

  2. Read: Nehemiah 1:11 and Nehemiah 2:2-3
    What was the setting and context of Nehemiah’s journey? What was the condition of his heart? How did these things move him to planning and action?

  3. What is the condition of your heart as you look at the specific area of your life where you need to plan and see change? How can your heart condition move you to action?

  4. Read: Nehemiah 2:4-9
    Why is prayer essential and needed while we are in a planning process? What dangers do we face if we plan and don’t invite God to lead us through prayer?

  5. What are one or two clear and big goals you feel od wants you to set as you press toward His will in this area of your life?

  6. What are some of the details and “little” things that are critical for success? Why is attention to details essential for success as we follow God’s will for our lives?

  7. Read: Nehemiah 2:11-18
    Why is prayer essential and needed while we are in a planning process? What dangers do we face if we plan and don’t invite God to lead us through prayer?
