Small Group Discussion
Tell about a time you experienced a transition and share how it was difficult and challenging.
Tell about a time when you went through a big shift or transition and God did something exciting or amazing.
Read: Isaiah 43:18-21. What are examples in the Bible of God doing something new where He blessed and led His people?
What are ways God does new things in our lives today and how does He bring hope and refreshment, even in times of significant change?
Read: 1 Samuel 8:4. Jonathan pledged his allegiance to David and committed to follow him as he led God’s people. How did Jonathan’s father (Saul) respond and feel about this decision? Even when God is leading, not everyone understands and embraces some changes. Why is this?
Read: 1 Kings 19:19-21. How might Elijah have felt as he handed over the prophetic ministry to Elisha? What might have been going through Elisha’s mind and heart as he was called to step into Elijah’s shoes and become a key prophetic voice for the people of God?
What is your natural response to change and transitions (in particular, change you did not invite or plan for)?
Read: 2 Timothy 2:1-3. Notice that Paul points out how leadership demands passing the baton to a new generation (v.2). Why is it essential and a part of all of our lives?
Why is change and transitions in a church particularly hard and how can we be praying for Shoreline in this time of God doing new things among our church leadership?
