Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.”Prayer Direction
Ask the Lord to identify where and when you can grow in listening: to Him, and to others in your life.“Live It!” Challenge
Commit to embrace good listening on a daily basis. Begin with inviting the Lord to speak to you as you go about your day, then select times to be quiet and wait. Practice good listening with at least the first four people you encounter in your day.Small Group Discussion
Read Psalm 46:10 - Talk about what we can expect when we sit in the stillness of God.
Read James 1:19 - What does it mean to be “quick to listen”?
Read Romans 10:17 - How do we “hear” the message of the gospel? What is Paul getting at?
If you put a stopwatch on your conversations, how much time do you speak, how much time do you listen? What’s the percentage of each?
What’s it like for you to hear things you don’t want to hear? What situations might call for you to do that?
Describe some things God has “said” to you and how they impacted your life.
Describe some times when you were deeply listening to another person and it led to a special outcome.
Share where you believe you can grow the most in listening.
In group, practice sharing and listening, then feeding back what you’ve heard. Practice, practice practice!
