Memorize and Reflect

Numbers 6:4-6 “‘“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’

Prayer Direction

Thank God for the people He has placed in your life who naturally bless you and others. Ask for God to grow both the desire and practice of blessing in your life. Confess where you have been quick to judge and curse and not bless.

“Live It!” Challenge

Surprising Blessing – Think of a person who would not expect you to go out of your way to extend words of blessing to them. Take time this week to write or speak thoughtful words of blessing over the life of this person.

Small Group Discussion

  1. Tell about a person in your life who has consistently blessed you and others. How have they impacted your life and what have you learned from this person?

  2. Describe a person you have encountered (without using a name) who does not speak words of blessing but is quick to criticize, speak negatively, or put down others. How do people like this impact you and others they encounter?

  3. Read Numbers 6:21-26 - Why do you believe God called Aaron to speak this blessing over the people of Israel and how do you think it might have impacted those who received this blessing? What are settings you might use this blessing (either reading it, praying it, or speaking it from memory over a person you care about?

  4. It seems like people are slower to bless and speak words of grace and encouragement over others. Why do you think this is and what can we do to reverse this trend?

  5. Who is a person God has placed in your life who could really use a blessing right now and how can you be a conduit of God’s words and care? How can your group members pray for you and encourage you as you seek to bless others more?

  6. Try to list 8-10 words of blessing you can extend to people who need some encouragement and a reminder of God’s love and care. Who might you share one of these words with and when would you hope to do it?

  7. Actions have power to bless. Especially when they are accompanied by words of blessing. What are some actions of blessing that we can combine with words of blessing?

  8. What would it look like if you developed a habit of offering daily blessings to others in specific settings and at certain moments of your day?

    - How and who might you bless in your home?

    - How and who might you bless in your work place or at your school?

    - How and who might you bless when you go to the store?

    - How and who might you bless at a favorite restaurant?

    - How and who might you bless in your neighborhood?
