Memorize and Reflect

But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. (John 20:31)

Prayer Direction

Thank Jesus for His ability to heal you and for offering life in His name. Pray for one or two people who are going through a difficult time right now. Pray that God will touch them with His healing hand and that they’ll experience true life in the name of Jesus! Pray this for yourself if you desire healing in an area of your life.

“Live It!” Challenge

Walk in the Truth Jesus healed people when He walked this earth and He’s still in the business of healing. He’s the same yesterday, today and forever. However, it’s not up to us to dictate how or when Jesus heals. As followers of Jesus we must submit to and follow the one who is the way, the truth, and the life. Pray for healing, and trust that God knows and wants what’s best for you. Commit to walking in the truth, knowing you might receive the healing you desire, but you will always experience life when you walk with Jesus!

Small Group Discussion

  1. When you hear or think about healing what comes to mind?

  2. Do you have a favorite story or passage in the Bible that involves healing? If so, why?

  3. Do you believe God has the power and still heals people today? Have you or someone you know experienced a miraculous healing?

  4. Read the following passages: What do these passages have in common? How are they uniquely different in their approach to healing?
    Matthew 15:21-28 | Demon-Possessed Girl Healed
Mark 1:40-45 | Man With Leprosy Healed
    Matthew 8:5-14 | A Roman Centurion
    Mark 9:14-29 | Jesus Heals Demon-Possessed Boy

  5. Read the 4 passages again. How do you process the following verses, as they relate to faith and healing? Does faith always precede healing?
Matthew 15:26-28 | Nagging or Persistent Faith?
Mark 1:40-41 | “If you are willing,” / Jesus was indignant
Matthew 8:8 | “Just say the word & my servant will be healed”
Mark 9:19, 22 | Unbelieving Generation / “If you can?”

  6. Read: John 5:1-15
    What are your initial thoughts?
What do you learn about Jesus in this passage?
What do you learn about the man in this passage?
Why does Jesus ask the obvious question in v.6 to someone who’s been sick for 38 years?
Jesus is trying to help the invalid (and us today) understand that receiving healing and wanting to “get well” are different...how?

  7. The Jewish leaders (John 5:10) were too concerned about adhering to the law that they missed the miraculous healing; what are ways that we fall into the same trap of religious routine in lieu of practicing radical relationship with our savior?

  8. Read: John 20:30-31 According to John, there are 2 primary purposes for why Jesus performed signs/miracles; what are they?

  9. Knowing that we can experience true life through faith in Jesus, How does/should this incredible truth impact your daily life?

  10. Is there someone in your life that’s hurting and unaware of the hope that Jesus offers? Will you commit to praying for them this week? Commit to praying that God will open doors of opportunity for you to share your story/reason for hope.
