Thank God for calling you His friend and for treating you as a friend. Ask for strength to follow the teaching of Jesus as you reveal that He is your friend. Pray for yourself and other Christians in your life to live with a deep joy of friendship with God.“Live It!” Challenge
Growing Your Friendship – Jesus talked a lot about how our commitment to walk in His ways and follow His Word impacts our friendship with Him. Make a decision to surrender an area of disobedience to His Word in one specific area and set one or two goals to grow in following God’s will. Find one close and trusted Christian friend who can pray for you and keep you accountable in this area of your life.Small Group Discussion
Tell about a person in your life who has been a trusted friend. What are specific characteristics in this person’s life that prove their friendship?
Read: John 15:9, John 15:12, and 1 John 4:9-10. What did God do to initiate and show His love for us? How should this impact how we love other people and how we love God?
Read: John 15:10 and John 15:14. What did God surrender to show His love for you? What do you need to surrender as you grow your love and friendship with God?
Read: John 15:11. How does your relationship with Jesus unleash joy in your life (share a specific example)?
Read: John 15:16-17. What kind of fruit does God want to grow in our lives, and why is it so important that we be fruitful?
What is an area of fruitfulness that you know God wants to grow in you, and how can your group members pray and support you as you seek to live for Jesus in this area of your life?
What is one thing that is getting in the way of you having a thriving and growing friendship with Jesus, and how can you actively overcome this obstacle? How can your group members support you in this area of growth?
