Sermon Series: Sovereign Week 3Sermon Title: Embrace the Grace of God delivered on October 19, 2025
Day 1 READ: Jonah 3:1-4. How did God give Jonah a second chance to fulfill the ministry planned for his life, and how has God given you second chances to follow His leading? What message did God bring through Jonah, and why do you think it was so harsh?
Day 1 PRAY: Thank God for giving you second chances, and pray for the humility and courage to follow God’s will in areas that you refused to obey in the past. Ask God to help you hear His messages for your life, even when they are hard and challenging.
Day 2 READ: Jonah 3:5-10. How did the people of the city of Nineveh respond when the word of the Lord came through Jonah? Why did they respond this way, and what outward actions came with their response?
Day 2 PRAY: Ask God to help you take serious actions of repentance when you feel the conviction of the Holy Spirit to turn from sinful attitudes and actions in your life. Confess specific areas you are resisting God’s leading.
Day 3 READ: Jonah 3:10- Jonah 4:5. How did God respond when the people of Nineveh repented and turned from their sinful ways? How did Jonah respond to God’s compassion and grace toward the people of Nineveh?
Day 3 PRAY: Thank God for His amazing grace toward you. Ask for a heart that celebrates the amazing grace God shows to all sorts of sinful people.
Day 4 READ: Jonah 4:6-11. As we draw near the end of this powerful biblical account, what is the condition of Jonah’s heart toward the people of Nineveh and toward God (in terms of grace)? What do we learn about the heart of God toward lost people, children, and even animals?
Day 4 PRAY: Ask God to give you increasing love for lost and broken people He has placed in your life (even when they seem undeserving). Pray for a heart like the heart of God, who has compassion on people, even when they are rebels and sinful.
Day 5 READ: Jonah 3-4. What do you find surprising about Jonah and his understanding of grace? What do you find surprising about the greatness of God’s grace and compassion?
Day 5 PRAY: Ask for eyes to see sinful people as lost sheep who need the grace of God and the courage to repent of their sins. Ask God to use you to share His truth and show grace to lost people in your life.
Memorize and Reflect
Jonah 4:2
He prayed to the Lord, “Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home? That is what I tried to forestall by fleeing to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity.
