Curated Reading for November 2 – 8
Sermon Series: Countercultural Week 2Sermon Title: A Content Life in an Obsessive World delivered on November 2, 2025
Day 1 READ: 1 Timothy 6 (Focus on 6:3-10). What comes to your mind when you reflect on the words, “We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of the world”? How might your priorities and perspective on material things change if you really believed these words?
Day 1 PRAY: Ask God to give you a deep appreciation for every good gift He has given you, with a strong conviction that what you have is temporary.
Day 2 READ: Philippians 4 (Focus on 4:10-20). What does life look like when a person is content with very little? What does it look like when they are content with a lot? How are these two states of being similar and different?
Day 2 PRAY: Pray for God’s provision for the basic needs of life for yourself and the people you love. Pray also for a humble and generous heart when God gives you more than you need.
Day 3 READ: Hebrews 13 (Focus on 13:5-6). What does it look and feel like when you are truly free from the love and passion for more money (and the stuff it can buy)? What does life look like when we are obsessed with gaining more and more material things and how is this dangerous for our souls?
Day 3 PRAY: Take time to make Hebrews 13:6 your prayer. Seek to say, with confidence to the Lord, the words written in this powerful verse!
Day 4 READ: Psalm 23. What does this famous passage say to a person who is feeling deep anxiety and worry about each day? How does awareness of God’s presence and power help us in times of struggle (according to this Psalm)?
Day 4 PRAY: Pray this Psalm again and again through the day. Make it your own. Picture God as your Shepherd who loves and looks after you as His precious lamb.
Day 5 READ: Matthew 6 (Focus on 6:19-34). What are the ways we try to store up treasures on earth? What does it mean to store up treasures in heaven, and how can you work at doing this (Practically)?
Day 5 PRAY: Tell God He is your master and the only leader in your life. Commit to love him and ask for power to turn your heart away from the things of this world.
