Sermon Series: Rooted Week 1
Sermon Title: Rooted In Passionate Prayer delivered on June 22, 2025
Day 1 READ: Colossians 1:1-2:5. What lessons do you learn about prayer in this chapter? What can you do to make prayer a greater priority in your life this week?
Day 1 PRAY: Lift up prayers of thanks for people in your life who are faithfully following Jesus. Pray that each of these people will grow in the knowledge of God’s will for their life. Pray the same for yourself.
Day 2 READ: Colossians 2:6-23. What does a life rooted in Jesus look like according to this passage? What is one way you can grow more deeply rooted in Jesus?
Day 2 PRAY: Ask God to help the young people in your life to encounter Jesus on a personal level. Pray for each one by name and invite the Holy Spirit to draw near them and grow their love for God and his ways.
Day 3 READ: Colossians 3:1-17. What does it mean to live with your heart and mind focused on the things above? What are some of the signs that a person is living with their focus on the things of this world?
Day 3 PRAY: Ask for humility to turn from the things of this world that often capture our attention. Pray for power to “clothe yourself” with the things the Apostle Paul outlines in verses 12-14.
Day 4 READ: Colossians 3:18-4:18. What lessons do you learn about the place of faith in a Christian household?
Day 4 PRAY: Take time to pray for God to fill your home (and the homes of people you care about) with his presence, grace, and love. Thank God for the Christian friends he has placed in your life.
Day 5 READ: John 17. What did Jesus pray for the disciples who were following him when he walked on this earth? How did Jesus pray for you (the people who would come to faith through the ministry of the first disciples)?
Day 5 PRAY: Take time to ask God to help you, and Christians who are close to you, live each day in obedience to His Word. Invite the Holy Spirit to bring heavenly joy into your heart and home.

  • Add one new or additional prayer practice into your life for the next five weeks.
  • Invite a Christian family member or a close Christian friend to pray with you two or three times a week for the coming month.
  • Use Colossians 1:9-14 as a guideline as you pray for yourself and one or two family members.

  1. Pray more often with consistent passion and faith.
  2. Grow in community with other believers at Shoreline and in the Monterey community.
