Curated Reading for July 27 – August 2

Sermon Series: Into the Wild Week 1
Sermon Title: A Promise Kept: The Presence and the Power of the Holy Spirit delivered on July 27, 2025
Day 1 READ: Acts 1:1-11. What do you think the disciples were expecting from Jesus? What intrigues you in Jesus' final words, and how do they apply to your life today?
Day 1 PRAY: Take a moment to pause and pray, thanking Jesus for His life, death, resurrection, and ascension. Ask Him to give you wisdom and patience as you wait for an unanswered prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and lead you, and walk in obedience and partnership with Him as you wait on the Lord.
Day 2 READ: Acts 1:12-26. These verses are both sobering (reflecting on Judas’ decision to walk away and betray Jesus) and encouraging (reflecting on God’s provision of a godly leader to join the apostles). What qualifications did the early leaders of the church require? How does this encourage you as you consider the leadership of the early church and God’s protection, provision, and preservation of the leaders of the church then and now?
Day 2 PRAY: Take time to pray, thanking Jesus for the apostles and the earliest followers of Jesus, who so faithfully established the early church, even laying down their lives for the sake of Jesus and His church. Also, take a moment to pray for our pastors, leaders, and the Shoreline staff. Invite God to give each one a fresh vision of His call on their lives.
Day 3 READ: Acts 2:1-13. How did God fulfill the promise of Jesus? What did the Holy Spirit bring, and how did the people respond to the Spirit’s infilling of the 12 apostles?
Day 3 PRAY: Spend time in prayer reflecting on your relationship with Jesus and ask Him to give you a fresh presence of His Spirit. Ask Him to show you one area in your life where your faith might be weak or faint. Ask Him to fill you with strength, endurance, and confidence today!
Day 4 READ: Acts 2:14-41. How does Peter’s bold declaration to the crowd stand in stark contrast to how earlier failures during Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion? (Read Luke 22:54-62 ) How does this encourage you in your failures and shortfalls of following Jesus and sharing the gospel with others?
Day 4 PRAY: Spend time thanking Jesus for His sacrifice and His gift of forgiveness, eternal life, and the presence of the Holy Spirit in you. Invite Him to help you display courage and boldness today while showing grace and compassion in your conversations and interactions with others.
Day 5 READ: Acts 2:42-47. How did the early church function together? What were the things they shared in common and with each other? How do you engage in a similar way within Shoreline Church?
Day 5 PRAY: Pause and thank Jesus for His church and the joys that you experience on Sundays and during the week. Invite Hoim to show you one way you could more closely model the early church and followers of Jesus.

Memorize and Reflect

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
