Curated Reading for July 20 – 26

Sermon Series: Rooted Week 5
Sermon Title: Rooted in Christ’s Adventure Today and Forever delivered on July 20, 2025
Day 1 READ: Colossians 1 and Colossians 3:1-4. What are the “Things that are above” that we should keep our minds focused on, and what keeps us from thinking about these things? How can thinking about heaven help you stand strong in life today?
Day 1 PRAY: Lift up praise for the hope of heaven and all that is before us, who have placed our faith in Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you keep your mind and eyes fixed not only on what is in this world, but on heaven and eternal things.
Day 2 READ: Colossians 2 and Colossians 3:5-9. What are some of the wrong attitudes, behaviors, and motives that you have put to death since becoming a Christian, and how has this made your life better? What is one sinful action in your life that you need to put to death now, and what is your next step to do this?
Day 2 PRAY: Thank God for the dramatic changes He has made in your life. Pray for strength to put other sinful attitudes and actions on the altar and surrender them to Jesus.
Day 3 READ: Colossians 3 and Colossians 3:10-15. God does not divide people into groups. That is what sinful people do. How does this passage teach us to see every person as someone loved by God and not as enemies? What is one way you could reach out to and show love to someone who is very different than you (in the world’s eyes)?
Day 3 PRAY: Thank God for people at Shoreline Church who are different than you in worldly categories but who are family to you through faith in Jesus. Ask for a humble heart that does not judge people by differences but loves them like Jesus does.
Day 4 READ: Colossians 4 and Colossians 3:16-17. Who are people that have taught and challenged you in your faith and how is your life better because of them? Who are people that God wants you to teach and call to deeper faith in the Savior?
Day 4 PRAY: Lift up prayers of praise and celebration for the people God has placed in your life to help you follow Jesus more faithfully. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you wisdom and courage to invest in the lives of people who need to grow in their faith.
Day 5 READ: Colossians 3:1-17 (two times). What can an adventurous life of faith look like if we take the Apostle Paul’s words in this passage seriously and personally? What is holding you back from living a bold and wild life of faith, and how can you overcome these hurdles?
Day 5 PRAY: Thank Jesus for inviting you on an adventure of faith and not on a religious tour. Prayerfully tell God that you are ready to follow Him on His adventure of faith.
