Curated Reading for August 17 – 23
Sermon Series: Into the Wild Week 4Sermon Title: A Change in Direction and Mission: Saul to Paul delivered on August 17, 2025
Day 1 READ: Acts 9:1-9. Think about why Saul? Why did Jesus select him? Put yourself in Saul’s sandals, imagine what was going on inside his head!
Day 1 PRAY: Ask God to show you more of how he’s working in your life, since you were not stricken on the road to Damascus, but came to Jesus in another way.
Day 2 READ: Acts 9:10-16. Jesus picked Ananias to heal and start Saul in ministry. How strange for him! Going about his day, when Jesus tells him directly what to do with someone he doesn’t like. How does that play into the ministry plan? What unique characteristics did Ananias bring to the mission?
Day 2 PRAY: Thank God for the response of Ananias, as the facilitator. Ask God to make you a facilitator for ministry, then ask him to show you.
Day 3 READ: Acts 9:17-27. What stands out to you about the journey of Saul, especially the unique twists and turns? What do you imagine the other disciples and followers of Jesus were thinking about him?
Day 3 PRAY: Invite the Holy Spirit to guide you to your “Damascus”, meaning the new and different place where you begin a new work. Then spend time with Jesus, asking him to speak in his way, so that you can hear your direction. Pray against your fears.
Day 4 READ: Acts 9:28-31. Saul held firm in his commission, staying in Jerusalem, though it was “hot” for him there at first. What characteristics did Saul display in keeping to the path Jesus called him to? Where did he get the strength and courage?
Day 4 PRAY: Cry out to the Lord for strength to do what He’s called you to. Ask for guidance: discernment and wisdom. Ask for the openings and pathways to become visible, along with first steps.
Day 5 READ: Acts 9:26–31. As Saul stepped into his new identity, the church experienced both fear and breakthrough. One man’s transformation led to widespread encouragement and growth for others. How might your obedience and willingness to follow Jesus affect not just you, but those around you—your friends, family, church, and community?
Day 5 PRAY: Ask God to use your life as a testimony of His grace and power. Pray for courage to live in a way that encourages others to take bold steps of faith. Ask God to help you see the influence you carry and to use it for His glory and the good of those around you.
